In Bird song I explored the issues of betrayal, trust and the relationship between visual imagery and sound (the work is based on Bird song (acapella) by Florence and the Machine). These concepts were influenced by the narratives of childhood (Beatrix Potter, Disney movies) where creatures take on anthropomorphic characteristics. I began with the intention of using paper cutting as my material practice which worked perfectly with the concepts explored in the work. The gentle nature of paper cutting strongly reflects the melody of the original song and contrasts with the foreboding edge of the ‘crime’ taking place in the work.
