‘We are healed of a suffering only by experiencing it to the full’ Proust

Sydney Grammar School   According to Freud, ‘Public self is a conditioned construct of the inner psychological self’. This inspired my exploration of the fundamental duality in all human faces, the disparity between the public, social construct and the private, emotional realm. I wish to obliterate the superficial exterior and to penetrate the real being. Instead of depicting a feigned happiness, my desire is to confront, revealing genuine passion and pain. The pressures of social expectation are embodied by the gel, a suffocating agent of distortion which evokes the troubles of the passage of adolescence, a voyage of rebirth plagued by suffering.
