My work is related to a set of housewife's rules found in Housekeeping Monthly, 1955. These rules, placed on women by women, are my way of representing the impossibility of perfection and, through humour, deconstructing our futile struggle to achieve it.
My photographs, taken using a self timer while I immersed myself in the situations found in these rules, show how impossibly difficult it would have been for anyone to be so perfect. I wanted to express women’s issues, as well as document the difficulties of the time in a humorous manner.
