After visiting Tokyo, Japan, I fell in love with the culture. Tokyo is such a visual city, particularly the Harajuku district, where the youth dressed in a really obvious way that expressed themselves through their clothing. I wanted to capture their individuality and the visual style of Tokyo. I also wanted to produce small, intimate work rather than the typical, larger-scale painting. My ultimate aim with the work was to create an aesthetically pleasing piece that left the viewer with a joyful feeling.
