In my work I explored the idea of what a person thinks about and looks at when they're left by themselves for a time. In our society, we are constantly bombarded by messages from the media, politics, each other... but what happens when you take that influence away for a while? You can begin to form your own thoughts and ideas, free from such influence. I was led to look at this concept through extensive experimentation with, and exploration of, the pinhole camera, soon realising that I as the artist was shutting myself away and cutting myself off from the rest of the world, often for hours at a time. The quiet and still nature of many of my pinholes reflects the environment I often choose to place myself in, as well as my preferred state of mind - peaceful, reflective, calm.
