Newtown High School of Performing Arts Feathers, scales and skin is essentially a work devoted to the 'animal' – exploring representational aspects of life in the water, on land and in the sky. The artmaking process has been influenced by Rosalie Gascoigne. Her assemblages of found materials inspired me to primarily utilise old skateboards in a deliberately visceral depiction of pattern and surface, interwoven with symbolism of youth culture, adaptive re-use, and image-making. The diversity of colour and arrangement within my work ambiguously mimic the beauty and complexity of natural forms – the plumage of birds, scales of fish and texture of skin.
