Exploring the impact of postmodernism on art, and inspired by the theories of art critic Donald Kuspit, The end of art is an examination of the concept that art has indeed come to an end. As much about the history and nature of art, The end of art is also a representation of the postmodern world we inhabit and a subsequent questioning of it. Has art been replaced by 'postart', a term invented by Alan Kaprow, a new visual category that elevates the 'banal over the enigmatic, the scatological over the sacred, cleverness over creativity'? And what comes next? Where will art stand after postmodernism?
